In
class I have introduced two new activities for the tamariki after they have
read (a text selected by the teacher) with the teacher. It is called alphabet
work and the children have a grid where each letter of the alphabet is on the
grid. The tamariki have to search for verbs and topic-specific words in the text they are reading. The aim is to try and fill in as many of the letter boxes as they can. These
types of words (verbs and topic-specific words) will help the tamariki write their summaries of the text and more
specifically they can identify verbs when reading. Later on we will introduce
other language features into our learning.
So far the children have enjoyed the activities which provides great discussion
amongst the tamariki.
